Myth: The Fallen Lords and Myth II: Soulblighter will both be remembered long after they're finally dead for many things. Unique physics, original unit types, and balanced gameplay are some of these, but almost undoubtedly the most memorable quality to be remembered will be its fervent online community. The Myth series has reached a ripe old age, and there are currently no prospects of another game in the series coming out. Ever.

Duh, Clank, we've known this for a while, right? Yeah well let's put things in perspective. Most of us still playing this game at a decent enough skill level have invested a significant portion of our lives into this game. Concordantly, this must mean we derive some sort of pleasure from the experience, one that has not become too oversaturated or stale over the course of several years. Say you've played Myth: TFL and SB for an hour a day average of the course of your "career." We can all agree this is a conservative assessment and can mostly account for breaks for school etc. Well, do the math. If you've been playing for at least 5 years, which nearly all of us have that's....1825 hours. Over 75 days. Think you've averaged more than an hour a day? The numbers get even more gruesome. So what makes us as game players come back to this game repeatedly and devote such a significant portion of our LIFE to these games, even if its just over other forms of entertainment or other games?

The community, stupid! Now quick, think hard, what makes the Myth community what it is? A central server is a good start, which we've had in Bungie.net and mostly in Playmyth.net. The server code for Myth is extremely fertile for a close-knit community due to the lobby system and no auto-pairing bullshit or anything that you see more and more of these days. Combine this with tournaments and ranking systems(reasons to "care"), and you begin to develop relationships, good and bad.

When you think of good relationships with players on Myth, what comes to mind? Most likely it's the clans you've joined, the tournament teams you've played with, or the people that just always seem to be online at the same time as you and share your playing interests. These guys are your comrades, they share your joy and laughter, and they are always there to see the next hilarious dud or extremely skillful tactical maneuver that you pull, perhaps even congratulating you, making you want to play the game more.

The opposite end of the spectrum is also very important to the community. There can be no story without struggle, otherwise we'd go watch competitive spermblasting or Barney. So what better than to develop adversarial relationships with other players who's interests, behavior, and general demeanor are in conflict with your own? Perhaps there's always a player that ridicules you when you screw up, or puts your friends down while you're in the lobby, or maybe they're just mean to everyone because the anonymity of the internet allows this. In any case, this leads me to my main point:

You are all such big *cruiser* *will* filled with pussy juice it makes me want to wipe my asshole all over your noses. If I hear any more *cruiser* crying about me being mean im going to trace your IP so I can call your mom and tell her you're in need of a diaper change. If you can't become a good player at a game you've been playing for eight years, you should probably just kill yourself, as you're not good at anything else in life either.
