Jack of Betrayber defeats The Regular Order of Fries 52-17 Review by Wight Slayer Return to Index The score for this match was 52-17, so I wasn't expecting much. Return to IndexThe teams are composed of people I don't know, so I didn't expect to care. b.net was down, so I watched it anyway. J.B. seems to be Japanese (judging from the in-game chat), and I don't speak Japanese, but most of what they say is probably along the lines of "go kill that", "it's already dead." J.B. had competent strategies which they executed competently. I risk perpetuating a stereotype by saying this, but they were also very polite, thanking their captain for their troops each and every game. What they did to ROoF, on the other hand, wasn't at all nice. Outnumbered 5 to 2 in both of the first two games (one of which was caps), and 5 to 3 in the third, ROoF's mood was grim. Gangrene says it best, seconds from the start of the first game: "heh, we are so dead." And die they did, but maybe not as quickly or as emberassingly as the score indicates. ROoF's strats were basic (they had no choice in that), but in all three games the opening conflicts left ROoF with small material advantages. They managed to keep these small advantages for most of games one and three, and at one point in game three (fr) it looks like they might actually win. The cruelest moment in the match comes with 6:14 remaining in game two (lmoth). Murgen (ROoF's captain) is fighting an arc/lok duel on the right side. CRC (J.B.'s captain) sends tries dodging a ghol in from the front (not where Murgen is looking). Murgen cuts it down out of hand, and goes back to his duel. CRC sneaks a ghol around the hill. Murgen fires--hits the hill--and goes back to his duel. The ghol comes into range of some idle loks. They cut it down out of hand. They take the archers and each other out for good measure. Both teams in this match earned my respect. J.B. showed up when they were supposed to, played hard, used their advantages to good effect, and--of course--won the match. ROoF played hard, showed some skill (they aren't noobs), and fought to the bitter end in every game. |
