article by Sir Parson (Bingo) "Match of the Week" promotes outstanding individual games or series of games throughout MWC. Most of the early matches are obviously lopsided for this year's QR1, but I have found a few that offered films worth watching. I chose this set of games for several reasons. A - TFL vs. Myth2 - giving M2ers home court advantage - once and for all! B - Tormin of Cacra vs. his team, his parents, and the world (in that order) C - IC's use of nearly every inch of the maps The Cacra vs. IC match brings together two seemingly different schools of thought on how to play myth - perhaps the need for micro-management on TFL vs. the carved-in-granite trades, strategies, and execution of most myth 2 players in their approach to these stock games. IC also show that succinct and heads-up chatter and flexibility will win over over-indulgence and infighting almost every time. GAME 1 - DESERT STAMPEDE "checkers and chess are two different games" I came away from watching these films feeling like I had just watched IC play chess while Cacra was playing checkers on the same board. To set the tone for the series, I have prepared a visual goulash of the many succulent morsels of chat from one of Cacra's featured players - or at least so he thinks. His communication and his play are absolutely worthless to his team and their overall goal - and to mask his mis-cues, he begins the ever-popular blame game. The only success from his team comes from the most relaxed and patient flank - and of course, they are going to hear about it from him. His post mortem chat sums up the match from his point of view, better than I ever could from mine. Before we go on to game 2, I would like to add - to the credit of IC - it is nice to see ghols used in a variety of ways by several different players at once - and not just for pus. The 4 scouting pussless ghols of IC scored more kills and caused more havoc than any other unit from either team. GAME 2 - TROW TERRIES This game seems pretty standard to me, as do most Trow games - in that one or two significant events will turn the tide irreversibly in favor of the benefactor. Both teams trade with equal comfort, and the PT chat is noticeably different from the previous game. Weltal (captaining his 2nd game in a row) suggests his team shout out "SOPEN! at 00:00" which - I think - is some form of "good luck" in whatever language Cacra thinks is native to the IC players. While he did get 4 or 5 of his underlings to lemming it up in desert - he only gets one half-hearted (not in ALL CAPS as ordered) and late "sopen!". Tormin continues to entertain me here as before though - with a much more telling exchange than I'd have given him credit for: KuGaR : "let's get ready to own" (unaffected) pause....... KuGaR : "Torm, ready to own?" (slightly affected) Tormin : "whatever" (affected) KuGaR : "thats the spirit" (now...affected) bomtrack: "mb lets play like its just another game (way to go bomb - turn it around) KuGaR : "no shit bomb" (most suredly affected) This film reveals three things to me: - IC shows me something I have never known, and Trow can cross in one spot more than I ever knew possible - Despite the fact that IC was controlling this game and killing locks with easy throughout the first 6 minutes, a miscalculation on 4 IC trow vs 3 Cacra trow and myrks cost them the game in the end. - Tormin's bitter retorts at the end of the stamp game have most likely downgraded his elan within the team, giving him a pawltry 6% after PT - perhaps better enabling him to slander his teammates some more. GAME 3 - CRACKS FR This is, by far, the best game of the three. Both teams work well throughout the game, pushing and retreating - causing a near draw - until IC finally gets past the Cacra rear defense and get their much needed captured advantage to win them the game, and the overall points lead for this match. I don't think I have ever seen a team use as much of the given terrain as well as IC did throughout the game, having ranged artillary threaten and control from on high in several spots at key moments. I found it difficult to watch this film at times, because IC fails to take advantage of a few slight gestures that could have pinched down on Cacra at key moments, giving them a slightly easier time of keeping the game. I am glad in the end though, that it came down to the final minute to decide the eventual winner of the game, and the match. One final note on the ongoing chat saga of this series: the IC team obviously enjoyed their experience, and their very business-like chatter throughout the three games finally resolves into a relieved round of "GGs" and "phew"s - while the Cacra chatter at the end game is - at first accusatory and peppered with now familiar their rank-style brand of Kentucky ignorance - then falls completely silent - with not so much as a "gg" by any one member of the Cacra team. I'll say it for them now....."GG" everyone. I enjoyed your films. Good luck in the next matches. download THE FILMs |
